Top Tips for Skin Cancer Prevention
Wear sunscreen if you plan to be in the sun for a prolonged amount of time
Reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you are active or will be in the water
Apply sunscreen to young children, and reapply every 2 hours
Wear long-sleeved clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if you plan to be in the sun for a prolonged amount of time
Use sunscreen with a SPF rating of at least 15 – 30
Speak with your doctor about any medications you may be taking; some types of medications can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight
Be in the sun between 10am – 4pm, when the sun is at its most intense; seek shaded areas or plan to be indoors instead
Intentionally tan either outdoors or at a tanning salon
